This remarkable film was crafted by students from our very first cohort of the Filmmaking: Production BA (Hons) and Filmmaking: Post Production BA (Hons) degrees, a defining moment in the journey.
A deeply personal and emotionally charged project, Julien Brown unfolds as a series of unfortunate events for Julien, beginning with the death of his parents.
Director Jack Lee Pitchford poured so much of himself into this project, blending autobiographical elements with bold storytelling. His previous film, Killing Bugs, was nominated for an RTS Student Award, where it won a writing award, and we’re thrilled to see him and the team gaining more well-deserved recognition.
The National Student Film Awards, run by NAHEMI (National Association for Higher Education in the Moving Image), highlight the best student filmmaking talent across the UK. This selection is a huge moment, not just for Jack and the Julien Brown team but for Bristol Film School at boomsatsuma.
"We are very proud of the whole crew and love the fact this very personal, unique and challenging film is being acknowledged in the way we hoped it would be."
Freya Billington, Head of Bristol Film School at boomsatsuma.
"My time at Bristol Film School, boomsatsuma was instrumental in shaping me as a filmmaker. I was always drawn to experimental storytelling, and the course gave me the freedom and support to push creative boundaries. That encouragement allowed me to develop my voice and take risks, which continue to inspire my work today. I’m grateful to the tutors and peers who fostered such a dynamic and open-minded environment."
Jack Lee Pitchford.
