A Bold New Partnership with North Somerset Council
Boomsatsuma is delighted to announce our collaboration with North Somerset Council in a project that reimagines the Tropicana, breathing new life into Weston-super-Mare’s iconic seafront landmark. Backed by £2.7 million from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), this initiative will revitalise the Tropicana into a year-round hub for creativity, innovation and community engagement.
Returning to Our Roots
Having begun our journey in Weston-super-Mare, we are proud to be coming full circle to contribute to its vibrant future. We’ll bring our unique approach to creative industries training and collaborate with local partners to align with current trends and workforce demands. From informal courses to apprenticeships, our programmes are designed to prepare students for success in the creative economy, fostering the skills and networks they need to thrive. We’re excited to provide industry-led creative programmes that highlight local talent, deliver enterprise and skills development initiatives and collaborate with local partners to offer digital training. Our offerings aim to provide access to the real-world experiences and networks that will prepare students for work in the creative economy.
A Vision for the Future
Councillor Mike Solomon, North Somerset Council’s Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “The much-loved Tropicana is a key destination at the heart of Weston’s seafront. Reinventing this iconic landmark building will create new jobs, support local businesses and deliver a year-round experience-led economy for the future. We want to attract higher profile acts, culture and entertainment events to elevate Weston’s place within the regional, national and international scene. This funding will enable us to work with a venue operator to further secure the long term viability of the site as a culture and entertainment venue.”
Mark Curtis, CEO at boomsatsuma, added: "We’re excited to be part of the Tropicana's transformation and to return to Weston-super-Mare. This project aligns perfectly with our mission to bring industry-led creative opportunities to the region, helping to shape a vibrant, sustainable cultural economy."
Together with North Somerset Council, and our cultural partners Super Culture and soon-to-be-announced venue operator, we’re so excited for the Tropicana to be a shining example of culture-led regeneration, delivering benefits for the local community and beyond.
Stay tuned for updates as we embark on this exciting journey!
